4–5-Hour Horse-Drawn Carriage Tour and Traditional Feast in Valea lui Pavel

Tradition – Flavours – Experiences

Discover the authentic beauty of Transylvania in Valea lui Pavel, also known as Pálpataka, a mountain village near Corund, situated at an altitude of almost 1,000 metres!

Valea lui Pavel is a distinctive rural settlement of scattered farmsteads, where local families still make their living mainly from livestock farming, agriculture and traditional small-scale farming. During the tour, we travel through pine forests, hay meadows and pastures, passing mountain streams and traditional homesteads. Along the way, guests may see horses, cattle, sheep and other grazing animals while enjoying the fresh mountain air and the peaceful natural surroundings.

Our family-run business has nearly 30 years of experience in equestrian tourism. Our tours are organised with gentle, calm and well-trained horses bred and raised by us, together with comfortable and safe horse-drawn carriages.

Upon arrival, our guests are welcomed with a traditional drink. The pálinka is served in a special small cup decorated with traditional Corund motifs and fitted with a cord so it can be worn around the neck. At the end of the tour, every guest may take the cup home as a gift.

One of the most popular parts of the experience is the traditional open-air gastronomic picnic. Lunch is freshly prepared on site and includes grilled pork neck, mici—traditional Romanian grilled meat rolls—homemade bacon, onions and homemade sourdough potato bread.

While lunch is being prepared, depending on the season and weather conditions, guests may have the opportunity to pick wild blueberries or raspberries or enjoy seasonal mushroom foraging. The programme also includes a short tasting of homemade cheese.

Live music can also be arranged upon request, adding an even more cheerful and memorable atmosphere to the meal and the entire excursion.

After lunch and some time to relax in nature, we return to our horse farm in Valea lui Pavel by a different route. This allows guests to enjoy new landscapes, traditional homesteads and beautiful panoramic views on the way back.

The programme is suitable for guests of all ages. It is an ideal choice for families, couples, groups of friends, organised tour groups, corporate team-building events, school trips, family gatherings and private celebrations.

The complete programme usually lasts between four and five hours. With prior arrangement, both the route and duration can be adapted, allowing us to organise a shorter or a longer tour according to the group’s needs.

Sólyom Major, a tourist center (Ecovillage), aims to create a place for visitors that brings tranquility and takes us out of the everyday rat race. We wanted to establish a true tourist oasis, an Ecovillage, in the heart of Transylvania, where not only our family but also anyone who shares similar values can come. Our guesthouse has 11 rooms and is suitable for team-building events, corporate gatherings, conferences, presentations, courses, and family programs. In 2019, we opened the first gastronomic point in Harghita County, which we envisioned based on the "Farm to Table" concept. Tradition is reflected in our flavors as well. Activities we offer include horse riding lessons, which both beginners and experienced riders can enjoy according to their skill level, either outdoors or in a covered stable. We also provide summer carriage rides and winter horse-drawn sleigh rides, during which you can get a glimpse of the natural beauty and traditions of Kissolymos and the surrounding villages. Additionally, we can organize bread baking, campfires, folk dance nights, and other interesting programs upon request. If you would like to visit us, please call us at +40773 363 964! ❗ Horseback riding tours must be booked in advance! We recommend that you book 3 to 4 days before your scheduled time. Sopárkút Guesthouse is situated in a beautiful clearing, 14 km from Odorheiu Secuiesc and 31 km from Miercurea Ciuc, in Homorod Băi, on the Cekend Plateau. In this idyllic atmosphere we are welcomed by Szőcs Elek, the host of the guesthouse and of the horse riding center. The horses of the Furioso and Lipitans are kept on the pasture 365 days of the year. According to Szőcs Elek, in winter they prefer the food under the snow to dried fodder. Horses habitually used with mountain life are very dynamic and excellent for hiking trips. From here we can easily travel to the romantic landscapes of the Harghita mountains.
