At the Csíki Botaniq garden center in Ciceu/Csíkcsicsó, Ferenc Vargyas welcomes visitors with an interactive gardening program for those interested in ornamental plants and seedling cultivation. During the visit, guests can gain insight into the daily life of the garden center, learn about cultivation methods adapted to the local climate, and discover the care of seasonal plants. The approximately 1.5-hour program begins with a friendly welcome and informal introduction, during which Ferenc shares the story of CsíkBotaniq and explains how his experience gained abroad became a successful local enterprise. As part of the visit, guests take part in a guided tour through the greenhouses and garden areas, where they can learn about seasonal flowers, seedlings, and the technologies used in plant cultivation. Visitors also discover how plants are grown and protected in the challenging climate of the Ciuc/Csík region. A highlight of the program is the interactive “Green Thumb” workshop, where participants can try planting and transplanting seedlings themselves while receiving practical gardening advice. The visit concludes with an open discussion and gardening consultation, and visitors also have the opportunity to purchase plants directly from the grower. UzOnkA – Authentic Farm Experience & Artisan Cheese Tasting in Transylvania UzOnkA is a real, working mountain farm where visitors can experience everyday life on a Transylvanian farm: meet the animals, explore the pastures, discover the world of traditional cheesemaking, and taste artisan cheeses made here from the milk produced in this very landscape. We farm at an altitude of around 700 metres, following a regenerative approach. For us, organic certification is only the starting point: our aim is not simply to take from nature, but to work together with it and maintain a healthy, balanced system. Our cows live on pasture and feed on grass, the diverse vegetation of the mountain meadows and herbs. They are not fed grain, corn or soy. Many visitors are surprised within their first few minutes by the cleanliness of the farm, the absence of the strong barn and manure smell they might expect, and the clean, shiny coats and calm, friendly nature of our animals. This is not a farm staged for tourists: we simply show our guests how we really live and work. During the approximately 60-minute guided farm experience, arranged in advance, guests can meet our cows, calves and goats, discover the mountain pastures and learn about our approach to farming. They can then visit our nearly 90-year-old traditional stone cellar, where our cheeses mature naturally. The experience concludes with a guided tasting of our artisan cheeses. The farm is particularly enjoyable for families with children. Children can get close to the animals, play with the dogs and cats, meet the calves and goats, sit on the stationary farm tractors, and discover where the food on our table comes from. With advance arrangement or during special programmes, we can also offer interactive cheesemaking and other farm activities. The guided experience lasts approximately 60 minutes, but guests who wish to stay longer are welcome to do so: they can walk through the pastures, spend time around the animals, enjoy the peace of nature and escape the rush of everyday life for a while. Depending on guests’ interests and available time, shorter or longer programmes with different activities and pricing can also be arranged in advance. The farm can be visited throughout the year, and we have suitable facilities for visits in winter and in rainy weather as well. It is easily accessible by normal passenger car: a paved road leads almost all the way to the farm, with only the final approximately 1.5 kilometres on a good-quality, regularly maintained gravel road. Every season and every visit here is a little different. We do not want simply to tell people about rural life – we want to let them experience it: from the pasture and the animals, through the milk and the cellar, all the way to the taste of the cheese. At the Bio Tej farm in Mădăraș/Csíkmadaras, visitors can gain insight into the daily life of nature-friendly organic farming and the process of high-quality milk production. The cows graze on the meadows of Mădăraș/Csíkmadaras and are raised exclusively on organic feed with careful attention and care. During the program, guests can learn about the operation of the farm and follow the journey of milk from the farm to the consumers. The farm also cultivates spelt wheat, which is milled into flour in their own small mill. At the Mézözön apiary in Păuleni-Ciuc/Csíkpálfalva, visitors can gain insight into the world of beekeeping and honey processing while learning about the daily life of bees and the process of natural honey production. During the program, different types of honey and their beneficial effects are presented. Acacia honey is known for its pleasant taste and calming effect, forest honey stands out for its high nutritional value and immune-boosting properties, while hawthorn honey is recognized for its beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system. Timian Chalet & Farm is located at the foot of the Harghita Mountains, in a fairytale-like natural setting beside a mountain stream, near a former goat farm. The program includes animal petting experiences and tastings of handcrafted cheeses. The farm’s own dairy products – a variety of artisanal cheeses – form the basis of the local gastronomy and are also used in the dishes served on-site. The beekeeping presentation offers a unique opportunity for visitors to gain a closer insight into the world of bees, the everyday life of beekeeping, and the process of natural honey production. During the program, participants can explore the traditions of beekeeping and the essential role of bees in nature through interactive and engaging experiences. The visit takes place in the educational garden, where the demonstration apiary is located. At the beginning of the program, participants become familiar with beekeeping tools, prepare the smoker, and put on protective clothing. In safe conditions, they can look inside the hive, observe the structure of the bee colony, including worker bees, drones, the queen, and brood, as well as the process of pollen collection. As part of the program, guests can also take part in a honey and beekeeping product tasting, where they can discover a variety of natural products. The educational presentation highlights the ecological importance of bees, the role of pollination, and the significance of sustainable beekeeping. For children’s groups, playful activities and interactive tasks are provided, and seasonal or holiday-themed programs are also available. The "Kenyérműhely" artisan bakery and café is located in Gheorgheni/Gyergyószentmiklós. Their products – breads, sourdough baguettes, and pastries – are made using traditional, ancient methods with live sourdough starter, rye flour, and spelt flour. Our goal is to offer our customers healthy, highly nutritious, yet easily digestible staple foods that nourish both body and soul. We believe that high-quality bread should be accessible to everyone. During the visit, guests can gain insight into the process of making sourdough bread, learn about the ingredients and traditional baking techniques, and observe the different stages of breadmaking.
