Early Music Festival in Miercurea Ciuc 2026

The year 2026 marks multiple anniversaries in European, Hungarian, and Transylvanian early music.

Our festival pays tribute to key Renaissance figures such as Sebestyén Tinódi Lantos, Bálint Bakfark, and John Dowland, whose legacies—470, 450, and 400 years after their passing—still resonate today. As all three were renowned lutenists, the lute takes center stage.

The festival’s theme, Fantasia, reflects the freedom and creativity beyond traditional musical forms.

This year also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Barozda Ensemble and the 30th anniversary of the Codex Early Music Ensemble.

Alongside the festival, the Early Music Summer University will host 9 masterclasses.
