About
During the period of economic collapse in Germany after World War I, it was cheaper to wallpaper your home with banknotes than to buy actual wallpaper. However, this pales in comparison to the post-World War II Hungarian hyperinflation, which still holds a world record. The Székely Museum of Ciuc preserves numerous artifacts from these two defining economic events of the 20th century. The hyperinflation banknotes in its collection, which are the focus of this lecture, serve as vivid reminders of the economic uncertainty following the two world wars.
On Wednesday, December 17, at 6:00 PM, historian and museologist István E. Szabó will give the eighth lecture of the third season of the series at the 402-year-old Mikó Castle, titled Hyperinflation Banknotes – 20th Century Reminders of Economic Collapse. All interested visitors are warmly welcome.
