100-Leu Wives
About
Fate Painting – Ethnographic Performance
The story of the “100-leu wives” is scarcely documented, yet deeply embedded in collective memory. In rural Székelyland, marriages were often born of necessity rather than love. Many women—especially Moldavian Csángó girls—were forced to leave their homeland to become wives in a foreign place.
This performance brings their personal stories to life, exploring loss, adaptation, identity, and the possibility of love within marriage. Beyond individual fates, it reflects on human connection, dignity, and the endurance of partnership.
